A graduate in Economics (Honours) from St. Stephen's College with a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, Sharat Misra taught in Delhi University for nearly two years before joining the Indian Railway Traffic service in 1980. After spending about ten years in Railway operations and planning, Sharat joined CONCOR as part of the core group which set up the company where he worked variously in planning, operations and marketing divisions of the company to grow it into the leading multimodal logistics player in the country.  In 2002, he was selected as Full-time Director on the CONCOR board. He changed course in 2005 to join the private sector as President of BOXTRANS Logistics to set up the rail and inland logistics arm of the JM Baxi group. Having established Boxtrans as a container train operator with a brand image, he moved on to set up his own advisory firm, SCM Advisory Services. He has, since 2008, spent more than a decade in Transport and Logistics Infrastructure Consulting mainly with PwC and Deloitte, and is currently Senior Advisor to EY in their Transport and Logistics Consultancy practice. He has been President of ACTO (Association of Container Train Operators), consultant to CDC/UK, Director of a training company, Independent Director in Private companies and has advised several LSPs, PE firms etc. in the logistics domain. He has taken lectures at premier management institutes for courses in Logistics Management.

An established name in the field of Multimodalism, Rail Container Operations and Supply Chain Management, Sharat has participated extensively in national and international seminars and conferences and has published articles in transport journals and business newspapers.
